SCENE THREE

Doctor: “Not so sick, my lord,

As she is troubled with thick-coming fancies

That keep her from her rest” (5. 3. 37-39).

This quote also demonstrates Lady Macbeth’s guilty conscience over the killings. The doctor is explaining to Macbeth that his wife is not ill, but rather mentally disturbed, which is why she can’t sleep. Again, it relates to the theme that unchecked ambition can have extreme consequences, which in this case is remorse and incapable of sleeping.
